Altris validates sodium-ion batteries at –40°C

Molindo portfolio company Altris has reached a new milestone in the development of sodium-ion batteries for automotive applications. Together with Clarios and European battery manufacturer InoBat, the company has successfully validated cold-start performance down to –40°C.

The results follow extensive testing across automotive, heavy-duty, off-highway and commercial vehicle applications and mark an important step towards industrialisation. The project is now moving beyond prototype development towards pilot-scale and small-series production readiness at InoBat’s Volta facility in Slovakia.

The strong low-temperature performance further strengthens the potential for sodium-ion technology in demanding low-voltage and high-power applications.

Automotive low-voltage is one of the most demanding validation environments for sodium-ion technology, and our Prussian White cathode material has now come through it, says Christer Bergquist, CEO of Altris.

The latest results mark another step towards the partners’ previously announced target of serial production before the end of the decade.
